Karen Thompson is the owner and teacher at norskpdx in Vancouver, WA. She was raised trilingual English/Norwegian/German in the Norwegian and greater Scandinavian communities in the Portland, OR, metro area. She attended the Norwegian summer language camps run by the Sons of Norway organization in Oregon and Washington as a child, then attended the Camp Norway summer camp in Sandane, Norway, in 1995. She has a background in Scandinavian genealogy and has taught language and genealogy classes since 1994, mostly through the local Sons of Norway lodges. Now she runs norskpdx, teaching online classes and offering tutoring help to children and adults, and also works with Avant Assessment in correcting Norwegian tests for the Pacific Northwest. She has also worked with various professional tutoring companies, including assisting with language training for the military, and regularly helps estate attorneys with Norwegian probate records. Karen has her B.A. in Education from Concordia University (formerly in Portland, OR) and has taught preschool at various childcare centers in the Portland metro area. She was Youth Director at the Sons of Norway Columbia Lodge in Vancouver, WA, from 2000-2004, and the Leikarringen (children's Scandinavian dance) Director at the Sons of Norway Grieg Lodge in Portland, OR, from 2005-2019.
