This project aims to investigate the neoliberal urban projects taking place in the city of Agadir in Southern Morocco—projects that focus their investments on the city’s infrastructure, the development of a robust tourist sector, including sites of leisure such as the Danialand aquapark, the marina, and the shopping center known as Agadir City Center, all of which are currently under construction. Specifically, the research focuses on Agadir—an Amazigh (indigenous) city – to better understand the history of neoliberalism in Morocco in light of the long history of European intervention in the country and as part of the ‘History of the Present’(tārīkh al-zaman al-rāhin) trend in Moroccan historiography.
