Heritage Language Resources Hub
Reading materials are needed for MANY languages taught in community-based schools. This online resource hub provides links to sites around the world that make available digital reading materials. The Hub is dedicated to languages that are less widely spoken, or more dispersed in the diasporas, and do not have literature that is easily accessible to learners. The web sites (which belong to non-profit organizations) provide access to a range of easily downloadable materials in hundreds of languages spoken around the world. Most of the materials are free, some are available for a small fee. Bloom, below, is one of these collections. While many of the materials are written for children (unless otherwise stated in the description), some are for adolescents and adults. They provide valuable resources for reading together in classes, families, and communities.
Take a look, use these materials with the learners in your school, and encourage them to use them themselves and with their families and children,
Bloom Library
The Bloom Library contains reading materials (nearly 15,000 books) for students in almost 600 languages. These materials can be read online or downloaded as ePUBs, PDFs, and BloomPubs (for use with the free Bloom Reader App for Android devices). Bloom books can also be downloaded into the free Bloom Editor to make adaptations and translations for other languages/contexts. Bloom facilitates the creation of traditional text-based books as well as digital books for the visually impaired (image descriptions and full-text audio) and by and for the Deaf (incorporation of Sign Language videos).
