Map of CBHL Schools

Since 2014, we have documented 898 schools teaching 62 languages across 43 states. You can use the map below to explore these schools.

Click on the   icon to open a menu that will let you filter the schools by language or state. To see the list of schools of a specific language or in a specific state, click on the down arrow at the top left of the screen.

The schools are listed in order of number of schools documented, from most to least. If only 5 or fewer schools of a given language (or in a specific state) are documented, they are listed towards the bottom in Other.

Is your school not documented?

Survey data is crucial for meeting the needs of students. The Coalition conducts a national survey to document community-based heritage language schools in the United States. This is the first survey that attempts to reach out to and document this specific set of schools and students. Survey results provide important data about these schools — their key features, challenges, and accomplishments, which sheds lights on their importance and how we can help.

If your school is undocumented, you can document it by filling out a short survey. The survey will take you only a few minutes to complete. Please share this survey with your colleagues and ask them to fill it out as well.
