Ann Marie Gunter, Ph.D., is the World Languages Consultant at the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction. Her career in language education spans over 30 years, serving as a middle and high school classroom teacher; district coordinator of gifted and talented programs; and instructor of dual credit, community college, and university courses. In 2020, she was named State Supervisor of the Year by the National Council of State Supervisors for Languages (NCSSFL). Dr. Gunter received a B.A. in English and French Education from Purdue University, a M.S. in Educational Administration from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, and a Ph.D. in Educational Research and Policy Analysis from North Carolina State University. She conducts professional development on proficiency-based standards, supports initiatives such as dual language/immersion programs and Seal of Biliteracy awards, and serves on a variety of committees for national and state world language groups.
